The HBGV evolved through six strenuous development steps since VSI launched in March. The flow path was optimized in 2014 for the first field test valves during extensive “virtual testing” using Autodesk Simulation CFD with Team 142 of the Ubercloud Experiment. In three months we have designed a valve around the flow path employing the helical bevel gear drive that involved overcoming challenges of complex geometry, component strength limitations, friction and ultimately, efficiency.

The engineering work has revealed opportunities to improve efficiency and producibility  of Version 1 on which the patent is based. Specific solutions to problems are summarized in the patent continuation in part to be filed in conjunction with the award process of the first patent.
